Hayle Town Council has been given £100,000 in community funding for a community garden project.
The money for the Hayle Terrace Community Garden Project follows the
success of its application for Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)
funding.
"We have been awarded a grant of £100,000 to bring the
much-anticipated community garden project at the former Hawkins motor
site on Hayle Terrace to life," said the council.
"This funding marks a major milestone in our commitment to creating a
vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive outdoor space in the centre of the
town for the local community."
The Hayle Terrace Community Garden project will transform a currently
contaminated site into a flourishing green space for residents and
visitors to enjoy.
With the CIL funding secured, the council is now preparing to move forward with the next steps.
In the coming weeks, it will be issuing a tender for the remediation
of the contaminated land, paving the way for the construction of the
garden.
Hayle Town Council has also secured conditional planning permission for St Elwyn’s Mess to replace the windows and doors.
The building is adjacent to the garden site which means that the whole
site will be spruced up and looking tidier for the community to enjoy.
St Elwyn’s Mess was devolved to Hayle Town Council from Cornwall Council’s ownership at the end of 2023.
Once completed, the garden will provide a welcoming environment for
recreation, education, and social connection, enhancing the quality of
life for all who visit.
Eleanor Giggal, Hayle Town Clerk said "This CIL funding is a fantastic
opportunity to make a real difference in our community. The garden will
not only improve the environmental health of the area but also create a
beautiful, inclusive space where people can come together, connect with
nature, and enjoy a sense of community. We’re excited to begin the work
and see this vision come to life.”
"The remediation and construction phases are expected to commence in
Spring 2025. Updates on the project, including key milestones and
community engagement opportunities, will be shared through
hayletowncouncil.net and our social media channels.
"We would like to extend our gratitude to all those who supported our
application, helping us secure this vital funding. Together, we are
taking a significant step toward creating a greener, healthier, and more
connected community."Environment
