Hayle in Bloom
Things are gaining a momentum of
their own as we move towards the
S.W. in Bloom main judging in July
and keen observers may well have
noted extra volunteers in their new
high-viz. jackets being active around
Hayle.
The other competitions to remember
are the Hayle In Bloom (H.I.B.)
Summer Competitions with judging
to take place in late July. The twocategories are :
(a) Best Residential Garden and, (b)
Best Dressed Pub.As last year, entries need to be made
by email directly to our Chairperson,
Richard Barber, by Midsummers Day
21st June on email:
rbarber00@outlook.comIt was wonderful to see all the new
blooms growing on the K.G.V.
Memorial Walk in the recent Spring
warmth and, talking of new blooms, it
was good to see Tony out and about
on the Walk last week! There was a big turn-out of existing
and new volunteers on Sat. 1st May
for the Group Work morning in
central Hayle. HIB volunteers
concentrated on the Jubilee bridge
area, including the Bouledrome and
giving very able support were the
Towans Rangers and the W.I. along
Penpol Creek and around Isis
Gardens.Activities included weeding, pruning,
tidying up and preparing beds for
planting out.Indeed, the planting of perennials will
start soon and if you are able to help
with that then please email Richard.
Don’t forget that the small boats on
the quay outside Asda have had
some repairs and are being stocked
with veg. plants again this year so
that members of the community can
help themselves when the plants
have matured.AND NOW FOR SOME THANKS to
all volunteers who have contributed
in any way during the last two
months (MORE VOLUNTEERS
PLEASE!)
To Terry English for rebuilding the
engine house on Penpol Terrace,
and which will be erected shortly
To Simon, for repairing the small
boat near the bouledrome on the
Jubilee Bridge
To the Riviera Cafe for supplying
teas and coffees on the Group Work
morning
To Barry Connor for donating fifteen
high-viz jacketsLast but not least to Hayle Town
Council for all their support, and
Olivia, our town gardener, for all her
supportFinally a message from our
chairperson, Richard:
“As with most voluntary bodies, we
can exist only with donations as well
as fundraising. We thank our current
donors, but because of COVID, we
have not been doing any fundraising
activities this year to supplement our
income. If anyone can help or has
ideas to help solve this particular
problem, then do please email me
on email: rbarber00@outlook.com
